Hey guys, we are back with our latest video for the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets. It’s an all out claymation fest. It follows Alice (In wonderland ) as she stumbles upon a land made entirely out of candy. It’s bright/full of colour, has cute characters and of course blood. Lots of blood!
This is the most intense music video I have ever worked on, but may also be one of the most rewarding. up until this point I had only made one Video entirely in Claymation video - Youth Man : Look/Wait . That video took around six weeks to produce and was under two minutes in length. This new video was over double the length, had to be completed in four weeks and contained more characters and locations. I knew I couldn’t do it alone so I drafted in my good friend and collaborator Brandon Kahn, tasking him with the editing and compositing.
Originally we only supposed to produce a 40-50 second sequence for the video as the rest would be live action. However the band liked our ideas/treatment so much that they asked us to expand upon it and have the entire video be claymation. As we only had four weeks to produce the video, I spent half of the time making the characters, props and sets, and the other two weeks animating the entire thing, working 16-17 hr long days and enduring a heat wave in the process. This also meant that Brandon had less than two weeks to edit and composite an entire music video, and that is by no means an easy task. Most of the shots had to have backgrounds added or rigs, wires, hands and other rouge objects removed. As well as set extensions, camera moves and colour grading. My hat goes off to him - and I don’t take it off for just anybody!
We delivered the video within the skin of our teeth, and I am super proud with what we managed to achieve in the time we had. Are there things I would change or do differently? Of course, I would have especially loved to have been able to spend more time on the animation .With that said everyone seems to be happy with the video and enjoying is - as odd and gross as it is.
